Developed in the early 1950s, Hobcaw Point was one of Mt. Pleasants first urban neighborhoods. Prior to the early 1990’s, Hobcaw Point and other older neighborhoods received electrical service via overhead power lines, unlike communities developed past the early 1990’s having buried electrical service infrastructure.
Having had to experience and endure multiple power outages over the years resulting from various impacts to its overhead power lines, the Hobcaw Point homeowners petitioned Mt. Pleasant Town Council to provide an underground solution, insuring uninterrupted electrical service while also protecting the many “grand” trees that adorned their community. The residents sought to inform Town Council by show of many resident signatures, its resolve in addressing this issue.
In the absence of a plan and if we were to complain, the power company has no other alternative than to remove branches in proximity of the power lines. Unfortunately AND with no fault of their crews that must carry out these instructions, a horrific aftermath to these grand trees is left in their wake having adverse impacts to homeowner values. We must act now and more importantly act in an orchestrated fashion.
